We are getting to the point where autonomous self-driving cars are becoming a regular conversation topic. Everyday we hear new innovations and more manufactures investing in the technology that will inevitably take over life on the road. Italian innovators at NEXT take these concepts to the next level by introducing designs for transportation system that integrates connecting mobile pods for public transportation approach
but with Uber-like request system. We can take you through their proposed designs on how they see their system working.

Pick up service

Like any other progressive car service they offer an app, where you can request a pod to come to you with a destination selected and how many people will be traveling with you. Much like Uber, payment can easily be taken care of with the credit card on file. So no need to fuss with currency or refilling metrocards.

Transportation and Pod Connections
The pod picks you up at the designated area and can come with up to 6 seats with additional room for people who choose to stand. Once on the road, pods can interlink with each other and allow you to safely walk through them or transfer to another pod. The app will inform you if you need to transfer to the connected pod to reach your destination.
Pods can then be disconnected when passengers are going to different locations. Naturally, doors close and safety announcements declare warning before the pods split off, much like a transfer at a subway station.
Service Modules
Because there always has to be a luxury component, NEXT offers service pods with toilets, coffee and alcoholic beverages — because hey why not? You are not driving!

 Sustainability
The idea behind using connecting modules for redistributing passengers is to cut down on energy consumption and traffic footprint. Oh did we mention these are cars are planned to be fully electric? Check out full trailer from Next on what these modules are capable of doing.
